Basic Salad Dressing Recipe
In order to make a salad dressing you need three basic ingredients:
1. fat (oil)
2. acid (usually vinegar)
3. flavor
This formula can be used to make a wide array of different recipes for salad dressings based on what you happen to have on hand at any given time. It also frees you up to experiment and find the dressings that best suit your tastes.
The basic ratio I use is three to one. That’s three parts fat to one part acid, plus flavoring. It applies regardless of the type of oil/fat or acid used, so don’t be afraid to experiment with what you have on hand.
Given a bit of time you will come to realize an entire realm of possibilities that you wouldn’t have imagined before and you will likely combine ingredients you hadn’t considered as well. Just remember that there are no rules here; you are the cook, so you make the decisions.
REMEMBER: Bad recipes are usually just an ingredient away from being masterpiece! Don’t be afraid of your kitchen.
