Green Puppy Pad Advantages

When training a new puppy, you’re going to find early on that an accident or two happens. But don’t let that deter you from trying. Keep at it and your puppy will soon learn that he needs to go outside to do his business. In the interim, use puppy pads. They sell them in pet supplies stores and are usually made of synthetic materials. But if you want to go green, use puppy pads that are washable and environmentally safe.

Why fill a landfill when you can just make a little extra effort and use washable pads for your little furry guy? A washable pad will allow you to train your puppy faster and with greater ease. Why? Because puppy doesn’t want to sit in a wet cage or a wet play area. Synthetic disposable pads wick away too much moisture. He’ll never know that he has had an accident if a disposable pad keeps the area dry. Once he catches on that he doesn’t like sitting in urine, he’ll get the idea to go outside instead. It’s much the same idea used in potty training children. Use cloth diapers and they will soon realize they don’t like feeling wet and will go on the toilet instead.

Use your puppy pad to slowly move your pet towards going outside. Each time you wash the puppy pads, some of the dog’s unique scent remains on it. It may be undetectable to the human nose, but a puppy can find his own scent. He’ll be able to locate the clean pad and use it instead of your new Persian rug. As puppy gets more and more accustomed to his walks and is learning not to go in the house, keep moving the pad closer to the door you will take him out for his bathroom breaks. Eventually, his own nose and habit will bring him outside to do his business.

In addition to the ease of using washable pads, you will also see a savings in your budget. Buying boxes of disposable pads can really get expensive. You only need a few washable pads and you never have to buy them again. You also won’t have to pay to have professionals in to clean your carpet. Puppy will go on the pads instead of all over the house.

You’re keeping heaps of garbage out of the landfill by using washable pads. It’s an easy thing you can do to be green and train your pet at the same time. Reuse your puppy pads hundreds of times. Your puppy will be trained long before the pads wear out.

So what exactly is a puppy pad?  Is it just a piece of fabric? No, it’s much more. Today’s puppy pads are designed to block odors and resist stains. They can be purchased in many sizes and even come in colors so it’s not obvious to guests that you’ve got training pads in the living room. They look like pet beds. You can also throw them over furniture to keep your pet from using it as a potty by accident. You can rest assured if you are at work during the day that the pads are absorbent and will lock in any liquid until you can get home to replace them.

What about washing them? Is there any special care required? No. Do plan to have a few pads on hand though, and keep a separate laundry basket for puppy’s pads. When one is dirtied, bring it to a suitable place outdoors and remove any solid waste. Then, place the pad in the laundry basket to await washing. When you’ve collected two or three pads, run a wash in the washing machine with just the pads. You can dry them in the dryer or you can hang to dry. Since they come in packs with multiple pads, you’re not going to have to race to wash a fresh one before work. You’ll always have plenty on hand.

Not only will your pup train faster and easier with green puppy pads, but he’ll also be using a material that will disintegrate over time once it is thrown out. It won’t sit there forever like a synthetic plastic. It’s cotton and will easily biodegrade once disposed of.

It’s smart to use cloth puppy training pads instead of disposable ones. It will cost you less over time and you’ll be staying within your green goals too. Puppy will love them because they are cuddly and soft.  You won’t have to run to the store every week to get a new box. You can feel confident that your puppy will learn to go outside easier and faster than with disposable pads. He’ll smell his scent and return to a clean pad when he has to go. Everyone will rest easier and you’ll save money and the environment with eco-friendly, greener cotton puppy training pads.
