Cotton And Organic Hemp Are Smart Choices For Baby’s Clothing Needs

Almost all expectant mothers are waiting for the day when they get to start playing with baby clothes. Everyone can agree that there is nothing cuter than clothing that is made for someone who is so tiny that they can fit into the crook of your elbow. The clothing made for babies is always adorable, no matter if it’s clothing for a boy or for a girl, and it’s always fun to look at, especially when you’re expecting a little one.  Many new parents don’t know about the different types of baby clothing that they can get! If you’re trying to be proactive about caring for the environment, you will have some decisions to make about your child’s clothing.

What Do They Wear?

Babies, especially during the winter months, need to have more clothing than you or I need to have on a regular basis. They need to have not only a onesie, which is like a large undershirt, but they also need to have something on over this onesie, which is usually a pajama set. There are, however, two problems when it comes to this type of clothing: it can be more expensive than traditional clothing and it can be a little more difficult to find as well.

The Expense

Cotton is a great fabric for any type of clothing product. It’s been used in all sorts of things from sleepwear to socks, jackets, and, of course, baby clothes. When you have clothing made of cotton, you’re getting material that is extremely comfortable to wear. As time goes on, more and more people want to wear cotton. It used to be that silks and satins were the types of clothing that people wore and that were popular and fashionable, but now they are more into cotton because of the feel of it and because it is so easy to take care of. Unfortunately, this means that the cotton growers have been utilizing unnatural methods in order to get as much cotton as they possibly can. What does an unnatural method mean? It means that they are using chemicals and fertilizers that are not found naturally in nature in order to help the cotton to grow faster and in more abundance.

Fortunately, however, there are many cotton growers who realize the importance in making sure that the cotton they grow doesn’t harm the environment, and they have begun producing organic cotton. Organic cotton uses no chemicals and nothing is put on, or around, the cotton that you wouldn’t find in nature. This also means, however, that the cotton is more expensive, as not only are more people involved in taking care of the cotton, and in picking it, but it is more difficult to grow when you don’t use chemicals.

Difficult To Find

The problem with hemp is that it can be difficult to find, which makes it expensive. There is still a stigma attached to the hemp plant, even though there shouldn’t be, and many people misunderstand what hemp is. That is why it can be so difficult to find, and why, if you find a dealer of organic hemp clothing, especially clothing for babies, you should make sure that you retain their contact information, or that you save their website, just in case you can’t locate them again.

The Internet

The internet has, thankfully, become a refuge for mothers and fathers who wish to dress their children in organic clothing.  You can find a few sites online that sell cotton and hemp that is grown organically, which is definitely eco-friendly. Keep in mind that even though you may have an easier time finding these sites, you may pay a bit more for the clothing. Most parents who do purchase the clothing, however, believe that the extra expense is worth it, as not only are you paying for an organic piece of clothing, but you’re also purchasing something that will likely last a lot longer than the non-organic clothing and it has been made more naturally. You can either keep the clothing when your little one has outgrown it or use it for another child. You could choose to donate it to other children who need clothing. This puts recycling to good use and helps you to be eco-friendly in a whole different way.
